CLO: Students will be introduced to scanography and be able to experiment with this technique.
What is scanography?
Scanography (also spelled scannography), more commonly referred to as scanner photography, is the process of capturing digitized images of objects for the purpose of creating printable art using a flatbed "photo" scanner with a CCD (charge-coupled device) array capturing device. (Wikipedia) Website devoted to scanning Tutorial on Scanography National Geographic Scanography Submissions You will create 1 to 2 sanographs using objects and food provided as well as things you brought in Think about: Self Portrait or portrait of someone (keep your eyes closed) I Spy composition Pattern/Repetition Study of a botanical object YOU are responsible for cleaning up the scanner and the area around it - no liquid, sugar, sand, etc. that could scratch the glass or ruin the electronics! |

CLO: Students will finalize their digital portfolio for the school year by posting their best images and writing a reflective artist statement of their growth as an artist.
Portfolio Page - due at end of hour!
– your best 12-15 images in a gallery format (NOT A SLIDESHOW), use images from this school year. ADD YOUR ARTIST STATEMENT ON THIS PAGE Artist Statement: Look at your images that you selected for your portfolio page and CONSIDER the questions below (you do not have to fill this out, but the questions are helpful to collect your thoughts: 1) What have you learned this year? How have you grown as an artist? 2)What are some connections that you are seeing between your images? 3) What is your sense of style? What makes your image yours? 4) Do you tend to shoot a particular type of subject? What are you drawn to? 5) What are your future goals in photography? Now, looking at your answers to the above questions AND continuing to look at your images, write a short text (about 7-10 sentences) about you as a photographer. Promote your strengths and unique qualities as an artist. Please write in complete sentences, in paragraph form and check your work for spelling and grammar. Remember when you refer to yourself it is “I” NOT “i.” This will count in your grade. You are writing to the world here, not just to me. Make sure to correctly incorporate academic words that we have used in Photography such as composition, focal point, color, rule-of-thirds, different types of balance, content, clarity, focus, etc. |
SENIORS!!!!!!!!

CLO: Students will work in teams to be able to create multiple exposures of one scene in order to create a HDR image (speaking and listening).
HDR stands for High Dynamic Range. The dynamic range of a scene tells you how different the brightest parts of the scene (the highlights) are from the darkest parts of the scene (the shadows). The human eye can see a much greater dynamic range than any camera, including the camera of your iPhone.
While your cell phone will do all the HDR work for you, we will learn how to create HDR images through the SLR camera and Photoshop.
You will need to take 3 exposures (one underexposed by two stops, one exposed correctly, one overexposed two stops) to get the full dynamic range. Tripods are a MUST to line up the scene.

INSPIRATION ACTIVITY - POST ON YOUR INSPIRATION PAGE
This is an image of two different composers - Beethoven and Bach. Both are incredible musicians and composers - they just work in different ways. As you can see, Beethoven musical thinking is full of impulsive scrawls and hen scratches - his thought process is messy and defiant. He needed to sketch, edit, cross out, and rewrite his ideas. Bach's thinking is tidy and clear - he works logically and step by step. He works through his ideas in his head before he commits them to paper. Post this image on your Inspiration Page and then answer the following questions: Which style of mark making (Bach or Beethoven's) do you reflect in your photo thinking? What are some positive elements of thinking in your particular way? What kinds of challenges does your thinking style present? |
